SoMa Affordable Housing Project Returns

SoMa Affordable Housing Project Returns

An affordable housing project planned for Mission Street between 6th and 7th Streets has come back to life and is looking for approval from the Planning Commission. Back in 2009, a 13-story, 100-unit project on existing surface parking lots was approved, but lack of financing caused it to be shelved.

Now the same project sponsor is back, but the Mithun Solomon design has shrunk to nine-stories with 83-unit 100% affordable housing with some rather dramatic exterior design alterations. There’ll also be 963 sq.ft. of ground floor retail with intention of housing neighborhood serving retail or non-profit space. So far Planning staff has received six letters of support, and they’re recommending approval themselves.
