Details on the New Waterfront Exploratorium in San Francisco

With 80% of their funding secured, the Exploratorium in San Francisco has begun releasing the details of their new waterfront location. The project was approved back in 2010, but has since raised $250 of the $300 million needed to rehab and relocate to Pier 15. The museum has been located at the Palace of Fine Arts for 44 years, but the new space will be 300,000 sq.ft. (3x larger than their current space) with 600 exhibits taking advantage of the indoor-outdoor layout. The Palace of Fine Arts location will remain open until January 2, and will then close for the move so the new museum can open April 17, 2013.
