Everything is looking good for Hayes Valley, even the doomed Hayes Valley Farm has lived to see another day. The old freeway’s scar is slowly disappearing with every new housing development. Meanwhile the neighborhood maintains its role as a foodie heaven thanks to “the next Frances” Rich Table. Proxy Project is still growing, and with the addition of Suppenküche’s Biergarten, Patricia’s Green has become the city’s coolest piazza-style park. Next month alone Hayes will welcome Schulzies Bread Pudding, Noir Wine Bar, and the 35,000 square foot SFJAZZ Center. – Victor Obeck

SoMa’s had an exciting year. Short-term vacation rental site Airbnb signed a 10-year lease for 169,000 square feet at 888 Brannan and the Mayor’s pushing the Moscone Center Expansion Plan forward. It’s also home to plenty of Stanley Saitowitz-designed condos, which makes lovers of steel and concrete rejoice. And hey, how about the new MUJI store that just opened on 9th Street?
