Long-Delayed SoMa Apartments Officially Break Ground

A massive new housing complex at SoMa's 350 8th Street has been in the works for some seven years. During that period, the project has changed developers, dropped from 720 units to 410, and gone through round after round of delays. We've been tracking action on the site with some impatience, and yesterday come Monday the development will take a massive step forward and officially break ground. Now that construction is moving, we expect things to go pretty quickly, with the first units available as soon as November 2015.

The 410 apartments will be spread over 3.2 acres. Residents will be able to choose among normal one-story apartments, lofts, and two-story townhomes, all of which will boast stone countertops, stainless steel appliances, and big windows. There will be several roof decks, a community lounge and kitchen, a dog run, a gym, and a conference center. The complex will also be home to restaurants, retail, and artist studios.
